Hi, I'm Barb .

I'm an online and in-person counselor based in Kelowna, British Columbia, serving a diverse range of clients, including athletes, university students, professionals, couples, and parents. My expertise lies in helping individuals conquer challenges such as anxiety, stress, and depression by delving into the root causes and equipping them with practical coping strategies.

As a former elite hockey player and coach, I specialize in enhancing athletes' and teams' mental training to optimize performance, both in their sports and daily lives. Additionally, I offer speaking events and consulting services for teams, groups, and organizations, focusing on mental health, leadership, team-building, and performance enhancement.

My journey from elite athlete to wife and mother, and now a registered clinical counselor, has given me a unique perspective on the significance of mental health across various aspects of life. I'm committed to helping you overcome obstacles and unlock your full potential. You've taken the first step by being here, and I would be honored to support your journey towards a more fulfilling life.

    What makes me come alive

Hello, I’m Robin (she/her) and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and I consider myself to be a wellness enthusiast who is passionate about helping others navigate their life journey.

I have spent my career discovering and sharpening my skills as a mental health clinician. By attending workshops, courses and galvanizing therapeutic modalities (with an attachment, person-centered, EFT and CBT lens), I have honed my skills to attend to the diverse needs of my clients. As importantly, is my lived experience of the many challenges and successes of 25 years of marriage and raising 4 children in a blended family. From this I have gleaned that there is never one right way to improve a situation, though there are easier paths than others to get there.

As a clinician, I am honoured to walk along side, supporting clients as they traverse their life’s journey, with hope of paving a path for a richer, more peaceful way of being.

I am a firm believer in the flowing energy of the universe, and so I consistently steer clients toward nature and use of their own breath to settle themselves. By slowing the nervous system down, it opens and allows a clearer vision of their options, opportunities and choices.

In my free time you will find me hiking in the mountains with family, friends or my dog Ellie. I am always looking for new trails in nature or new life experiences and adventures which keep me present and grateful.

If any of this rings true for you, I look forward to connecting and working with you.

    What makes me come alive

Shawna is a mom of three kids, enjoying small-town life in the Similkameen. Her original background is in environmental planning and environmental health. Upon entering motherhood and having three kids close together, she felt totally overwhelmed by motherhood and it took a toll on her health and marriage. With counselling, and a lot of inner work, she grew a passion to help other moms turn off the autopilot living and show up for their lives, on purpose. This prompted her to seek training as a coach and a counsellor. Shawna enjoys music, painting, being outside, and that beloved daily coffee.

    What makes me come alive

Real, live, messy connections and moments of hope and resiliency. That moment when you start to feel a challenging or painful relationship shift. That moment when a student who absolutely did not want to be there, finds something worthwhile in the experience. That moment when someone sits with you and doesn’t turn away, but instead says, this isn’t too much, or too messy, or too shameful. You aren’t too much.

Those are the moments that make me come alive, and I’m incredibly grateful for the clients that trust me enough to share those moments with me.

People We've Helped

  • Testimonial from E

“Barb is so easy to connect with. She is attentive, present, and ever encouraging. Her genuine, practical and positive approach will leave you feeling uplifted and confident.“

  • Parent of AAA Hockey Player

“We have noticed an incredible improvement in our son’s mood and attitude since starting mental performance work with Barb. He took the initiative to reach out on his own, which speaks to how supported and confident he feels. We’ve also seen a clear jump in his hockey performance, including earning power-play time and playing with more confidence and composure. He’s thriving both on the ice and in the classroom. We’re so grateful for the care, flexibility, and encouragement.”

  • Professional Athlete

Barb’s mental training techniques were a game-changer for me. I learned practical strategies to visualize, gain confidence, be more consistent, and improve my on-ice performance.

  • High-Performance Hockey Player

Working with Barb has been instrumental in my performance and my overall enjoyment of my sport. I truly felt like a different player. I was poised, confident, and played free. Her support helped me unlock a new level in both my game and my mindset.”

  • Testimonial from Global Congress of Sport at Baylor University from an NCAA Athletic Director

“Barbara brought an incredible balance of authenticity and expertise to Baylor University. Her ability to connect with student-athletes through lived NCAA experience as an athlete and coach at The Ohio State University, while also delivering practical performance tools, made her talk one of the most impactful of the year for our coaches and athletes! We have continued to bring her in to work with our teams and athletes since.”

  • Parent of a competitive athlete

“Working with Barb has made a world of difference for our daughter, both on and off the ice. For the first time in months, we saw her genuinely having fun during a game—laughing, taking creative risks, and playing with a new sense of confidence. Even though she’s still navigating negative comments from peers, she’s now able to let them roll off her back. The change in her mindset has been incredible to witness, and it’s clear that the support and tools she’s gained through this work are making a lasting impact. We’re so grateful.”

    Teen athlete testimonial

My 16 year old daughter has been struggling with the mental game of her sport, perfectionism, anxiety , and dealing with disappointments. After one session she seems more at peace and has things to work on for the future! We have a game plan and it’s amazing! Especially coming from someone who’s been in her shoes and understands the stress that goes along with high level sports! Thank you, Barb!

  • Provincial Champions Hockey Teams

“Barb’s impact on our team this season has been nothing short of incredible. As a championship-winning athlete, coach, and mentor, she brought a wealth of experience, but it was her ability to connect with our players and strengthen their mental game that truly set her apart from her lived personal and professional experience. Her guidance helped us build confidence, stay focused under pressure, and play with resilience when it mattered most. More than that, she was a mentor—someone who inspired and believed in us, both on and off the ice. The tools she taught us went beyond hockey—they shaped us as athletes and individuals. We are so grateful for Barb’s leadership, wisdom, and unwavering support in helping us achieve our goal of winning provincials!”

  • Teen Hockey Client

I wanted to write and say thank you! After a few sessions with you, she seems so much happier again and when she steps on the ice, her confidence has definitely improved. There’s no crying after games or practices anymore (some frustration, yes, but crying and blaming herself, no). I can see improvement in her each time she talks to you and with post season, tryouts, and district development camp tryouts coming up, I know she’s feeling pressure. She’s always so much lighter and happier after chatting with you and I wanted to say thank you so much. It’s been such a big improvement!
