Hi, I'm Barb .

I'm an online and in-person counselor based in Kelowna, British Columbia, serving a diverse range of clients, including athletes, university students, professionals, couples, and parents. My expertise lies in helping individuals conquer challenges such as anxiety, stress, and depression by delving into the root causes and equipping them with practical coping strategies.

As a former elite hockey player and coach, I specialize in enhancing athletes' and teams' mental training to optimize performance, both in their sports and daily lives. Additionally, I offer speaking events and consulting services for teams, groups, and organizations, focusing on mental health, leadership, team-building, and performance enhancement.

My journey from elite athlete to wife and mother, and now a registered clinical counselor, has given me a unique perspective on the significance of mental health across various aspects of life. I'm committed to helping you overcome obstacles and unlock your full potential. You've taken the first step by being here, and I would be honored to support your journey towards a more fulfilling life.

    What makes me come alive

I am approaching the end of my Master of Arts degree in Counselling at Providence University College & Theological Seminary and I am doing my counselling practicum at Alive Counselling. I am curious about many subjects and have spent time studying business as well as French language. However, I have found that I am particularly passionate about understanding what makes people flourish and come alive and what causes them to struggle. I have worked with kids of all ages as well as young adults in various capacities. Building a strong relationship of trust with my clients and supporting them in a client-centered way is my first priority.
It is a privilege to accompany individuals on their healing journey. I believe that with the right support, people can overcome many difficulties and experience great transformation. By using an integrative approach with an emphasis on emotion focused techniques, I create a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can express their thoughts and emotions. Clients have an opportunity to process life deeply and to create new thought patterns and habits that will serve them better in the long haul. Self-compassion, mindfulness, and sitting with your emotions are a few tools that are helpful in this process. I also love helping clients discover their unique strengths and support them in finding the life paths that will help them to thrive.
I spend much of my time off in the outdoors, whether it’s growing a vegetable garden, going on long hiking trips or skiing with friends.

    What makes me come alive

Real, live, messy connections and moments of hope and resiliency. That moment when you start to feel a challenging or painful relationship shift. That moment when a student who absolutely did not want to be there, finds something worthwhile in the experience. That moment when someone sits with you and doesn’t turn away, but instead says, this isn’t too much, or too messy, or too shameful. You aren’t too much.

Those are the moments that make me come alive, and I’m incredibly grateful for the clients that trust me enough to share those moments with me.

    What makes me come alive

Hello, I’m Robin (she/her) and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and I consider myself to be a wellness enthusiast who is passionate about helping others navigate their life journey.

I have spent my career discovering and sharpening my skills as a mental health clinician. By attending workshops, courses and galvanizing therapeutic modalities (with an attachment, person-centered, EFT and CBT lens), I have honed my skills to attend to the diverse needs of my clients. As importantly, is my lived experience of the many challenges and successes of 25 years of marriage and raising 4 children in a blended family. From this I have gleaned that there is never one right way to improve a situation, though there are easier paths than others to get there.

As a clinician, I am honoured to walk along side, supporting clients as they traverse their life’s journey, with hope of paving a path for a richer, more peaceful way of being.

I am a firm believer in the flowing energy of the universe, and so I consistently steer clients toward nature and use of their own breath to settle themselves. By slowing the nervous system down, it opens and allows a clearer vision of their options, opportunities and choices.

In my free time you will find me hiking in the mountains with family, friends or my dog Ellie. I am always looking for new trails in nature or new life experiences and adventures which keep me present and grateful.

If any of this rings true for you, I look forward to connecting and working with you.

    What makes me come alive

Hi, I’m Stacey, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and hold a Master of Art’s in Counselling Psychology degree.

With 15 years of experience in mental health, I combine and integrate various mind-body modalities in order to tailor sessions to your individual needs. My approach is client-centred and trauma-informed, with a particular emphasis on Narrative Therapy, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Mindfulness, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

When developing a treatment approach, I recognize that our social, cultural and familial experiences through life, can greatly influence the way we view ourselves and the world around us. At times, our exposures through history may disconnect us from our inner world of knowledge, skills, and resilience. Honouring your story, and the wisdom you enter the room with, is fundamental to our sessions. As we access the qualities, values, and strengths embedded throughout your story, we may develop and grow healthy coping patterns to challenge the problems being faced. Within this process, you may find yourself reflecting on pieces of life in a way that you have never reflected before, opening up a space for movement and change.

Testimonials

People We've Helped

  • Client L

Lauren mental training techniques were a game-changer for me. I learned to channel my energy productively instead of being self destructive thanks to her guidance.

  • Client S

A big thank you to Lauren for helping me rediscover my confidence on the court. Her expertise and encouragement were pivotal in my sports performance.

  • Client A

My child hated feeling different in school and with friends. Lauren not only understood them but taught them to embrace their uniqueness in a wonderful way.

  • Client J

I struggled to make sense of my emotions until I started sessions. Her guidance and support helped me navigate my feelings and find clarity.

  • Client E

Lauren made me feel truly seen and understood during our sessions. Her empathy and attentiveness made all the difference in my healing journey.

  • Jocelyne & Monique Lamoureaux

Team USA, Olympic Gold & Silver Medalists

Whether it’s on ice and or off ice training the mental component of the game is bigger than the physical at times. I believe in sport and in life there are always obstacles, extrinsic and intrinsic. The biggest and most important mental skill I think a person can have is the ability to rebound from mistakes, criticisms and doubt with the confidence that you have the ability to get the job done and to improve yourself every step of the way.

  • Kate Kowalchuk

    NCAA and CIS Goltender

After meeting Barb she changed my life, helping me to reach deeper and find out how to be the person and player I wanted to be even with my set backs with post-concussion & outside obstacles. I am forever grateful for the ongoing support and help I was lucky enough to receive from my coach and mentor Barb Egan.

  • Client M

The work I have done with Barb has changed my life. With her help I learned that I was not only worthy but, capable of helping myself. Walking with her has been one of the most meaningful experiences I have ever had.” – Client M.

  • Stephanie Schaupmeyer

    Captain, UBC Thunderbirds

In my 5 years with the UBC Thunderbirds, the discourse surrounding mental health as a high performance athlete has changed so much. I have learned that being mentally tough on the ice is inextricably linked with being mentally well in the other areas of your life. I learned that this idea of a strong, mentally unbreakable athlete just isn’t possible. We all need support at times, and it’s ok to ask for it. When I started actively working on my mental wellbeing just like I actively worked on my hockey skills is when I began to really feel mentally tough in other areas of my life.

  • Client K

Highly recommend Barb! Very easy to speak with and effective at helping you understand how you can take action to to bring about positive life changes and to move past areas in life where you may feel a little ‘stuck’ “
