Hello! I am Shenaya; a therapist, mother, wife, and wellness enthusiast who is passionate about seeing others thrive. I take an emotion-focused, trauma informed approach to therapy. Emotion-Focused Therapy

Every person has experiences, struggles, and strengths that are unique to them. One of the things that connects us as humans is our shared experience of emotions. When we feel an emotion, it is communicating valuable information about ourselves and our experience. Sometimes we learn that certain emotions are “bad” or make us “weak” for feeling them and believe that it is best to distract or suppress them. When we do this, we are denying a part of ourselves that is real and valid. As a fellow human I know how overwhelming emotions can be, and sometimes turning away from them is what we need to cope in the moment. I also know how valuable it can be to turn towards our emotions when we feel able to do so; allowing space to feel, understand, explore, and process. I believe that when we allow someone to bear witness to our emotions, pain, and shame, profound healing can happen.

Philosophy

I view people through a holistic lens; recognizing that the mind, body, and spirit all play an important role in wellbeing. I consider therapy to be a collaborative process. As a therapist, I see my role as a fellow voyager; someone who is joining you where you are and embarking on a journey toward self-understanding and compassion. I would consider it a privilege to hear your story and create space for healing to occur.

Education & Credentials

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia Okanagan and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University. I have additional training in emotion focused therapy which focuses on developing self-awareness, creating meaning, and processing emotions.
