My Approach to Therapy

Sometimes life is messy. Sometimes it’s painful. Sometimes it’s invigorating, and sometimes it’s terrifying. And, sometimes it’s all just too much.

Hi, my name’s Špela, and I know what that feels like.

I also know it’s just a little bit easier when someone chooses to sit with you in those moments and says, “this isn’t too much, and you’re not [insert terrible thing you fear is true about you], and you don’t have to hold this alone.”

Still, asking for help is hard. Taking the risk of sharing your fears, uncertainties, and, honestly, hopes with someone is even harder. That’s a huge amount of trust to give someone, and I don’t take that trust lightly.

As a therapist, my goal is show up for you and help you hold all your messy, complicated, painful, and embarrassing “stuff,” so we can work together to untangle it, make some space for it, decide what kind of relationship you want to have with all those parts, and then work through how you would like to show up for yourself and others in your life.

Shonah offers online counselling in a variety of mental health areas including depression, anxiety, avoidance behaviours, life transitions support, coaching, food & substance issues, and Christian counselling. Having personal experience with supporting a loved one through addiction, treatment and recovery I am passionate about supporting people (whether the addict or care giver) through this challenging time. Addiction can breed shame, isolation and depletion in the care giver, as well as erode trust and self-confidence. Through counselling we can address the grief, loss and trust as well as build back your confidence, identity and develop skills to navigate repairing relationships. As a RPC-C, Shonah is supervised by Barb and offers low fee counselling.
