Anxiety Online Group Counselling and Support Groups

Online Anxiety Support Group Throughout British Columbia

When we are overwhelmed, stuck, & don’t know where to start, we typically don’t start. I specialize in CBT to help you get unstuck, understand “your stuff” (cause we all have it!), & implement practical strategies to change how you think, feel, & live more alive

We all experience stress and anxiety from time to time. Stress and Anxiety are some of the most prevalent issues people seek counselling for. You are not alone. Although, it can feel that way. Anxiety thrives on isolation and avoidance of the things that trigger your anxiety. Therefore, facing those fears with a trusted therapist can be so helpful. Friends and family may mean well, and are immensely important, however, they may not be properly trained like a professional and able to give unbiased input.

Welcome,

I’m so glad that you decided to join us for this group. You are here for a reason; you want change in your life. When we are overwhelmed, stuck, and don’t know where to start, we typically don’t start. The most important thing is to start where you are.

It is normal to feel a little nervous, but this is where strongholds can be released; in a safe community. Everything shared here is confidential. You will be sent an Intake & Consent form specific to groups highlighting this, the commitment of the full session duration of 8 weeks, & and 24-hour cancellation policy. Coverage is dependent on your insurance policy. Payment is made via e-transfer of $50 prior to each session to [email protected]  in which you will receive a receipt to submit to your insurance for reimbursement (please check with your unique policy for coverage).

Topics Covered:

You do not necessarily have to bare your soul — especially initially. It is a safe place for people walking through the same struggle to not feel as alone. There is power in connection as anxiety and most mental health struggles thrive in isolation and avoidance. You can always email me privately, or type questions in the chat box privately so I can address questions/topics to focus on while still maintaining anonymity.

So the focus of the group is:

  • Demystifying Anxiety: What is Anxiety? General Information and Overview
  • Safe connection and community
  • Teaching from myself rather than a heavy focus on vulnerable sharing (although that is encouraged in a safe way at your own comfort level)
  • Recorded sessions so you can always go back and rewatch/listen or refresh your memory
  • Worksheets and reflection exercises to keep forever
  • Signs and symptoms of anxiety
  • What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)? And how can it help my anxiety or any mental health issue?
  • Things that can contribute to anxiety
  • Protective factors against anxiety (things that help protect against the onset of anxiety)
  • Coping strategies that are proven by science, practical, and personalized to you
  • Prevention (preventing anxiety, and what to do when  it returns. Hint: You can cope!)
  • Strengthening factors to not only survive but thrive.
  • How to support someone with anxiety.

You’re overwhelmed and stuck in your own head.

No matter how much you try to control all the things on your plate, your situation is just too much and you end up avoiding social activities, or not speaking up at work, or overthinking what you’ll say or what you said/did.  You’re beginning to realize that you’re unable to just relax, be, and enjoy the people or experiences around you.

Maybe you struggle with perfectionistic thinking patterns, and judge yourself when you don’t measure up the standards that you should. When we have unmet and unrealistic expectations, we are left feeling defeated, depleted, and even irritable. These are all symptoms of anxiety.

Anxiety thrives on isolation and avoidance.

Although it is the one of the most prevalent issues, we can feel like we are the only one. Like something is wrong with us. So, instead we hide it, try to deal with it on our own, ignore it…until it becomes too much.

  • Change the way you speak to yourself, to speak to yourself with more kindness and compassion (like you would someone you love)
  • Improve relationships with yourself and others, and productivity
  • Feel and live more confidently
  • Practical homework/reflection exercises between sessions to gain self-confidence and skills
  • Be educated, equipped, and empowered with resources, self-talk, insight, and coping skills to manage and overcome your anxiety

Anxiety is a normal response in the body, until it is not.

  • Common symptoms include:
  • Anxiety thrives on isolation and avoidance. Thus, having a strong social support and counselling can help be incredibly beneficial to combat isolation. Counselling also helps you face what is overwhelming you or causing you to feel stuck or paralyzed with a trusted someone rather than alone. By doing this, you can then realize you can overcome these fears and limiting beliefs.
  • I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT for Anxiety, which is the gold-standard of treatment. However, I draw from a variety of therapy approaches to tailor counselling uniquely for you
  • To learn more about CBT, see my blog post here:
  • Essentially, your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected. If we can make changes in one area, we can impact change is other areas as well. We especially target those irrational, negative thoughts driving your anxiety and keeping it going.
  • For example:

Half of the battle with anxiety is becoming aware of it.

When I am feeling anxious or overwhelmed,

  • What is the situation? Name the facts, or What IS vs. What IFs.
  • Where do I feel it in my body?
  • What am I telling myself in my head?
